Summer workshop Folk & Tango with Laure Fourest & Koen Dhondt

Welcome to the 5th edition of the workshop Folk & Tango by Laure Fourest and Koen Dhondt for experienced folk dancers (see levels below).
This 7-day course, with full board, will take place at La Clé de Sol, a magnificent gîte in the countryside next to the small village of Marsaz, in the Drôme.
On the programme: dance, intensively and in all its forms (classes, free practice, bal, folk, trad, tango…), delicious meals, an atmosphere full of joy, novelties, laughter and encounters, a bright 150m2 dance room with parquet flooring, sunshine and nature!

Program

Approximately 6 hours of dance classes per day, alternating between folk couple dancing (50% of classes), Argentine tango (25%) and traditional dances (25%).
Sunday morning and Tuesday afternoon will be free to relax, go swimming or explore the surrounding area. Each morning will start with 30 minutes of gentle warm-up (stretching, simple yoga, massages, etc.).

Important : The main aim of the tango classes on offer is to fine-tune your body skills in folk couple dancing (finesse, subtlety, precision of posture and connection), not to turn you into tango dancers.

This week's workshop aims to provide you with all kinds of tools and experiences to enrich your way of dancing, mainly in couple dances, but also in some trad dances.

  • Further refine your body awareness to gain greater freedom, precision and comfort
  • Deepen your knowledge of each of the couple dances and learn to give depth to your dance by adapting it to their specificities
  • Develop your ability to guide and/or follow, and apply it to new variations
  • Refine your musical listening skills and expand your rhythmic vocabulary
  • Work on your ability to improvise while doing justice to the specific tastes of each dance
  • Explore the specific movements and body styles of some traditional dances

The folk couple dance classes will be taught by Laure and Koen together. Laure will teach tango and Koen will teach trad dance. Each of them will bring their own specialities to the teaching:

  • Laure: improvisation possibilities, body and posture work in couple dancing, Argentine tango (at the service of folk dances), musicality, anatomy for movement, and morning body warm-ups.
  • Koen: dances from the South West & Centre of France, improvisation, musicality & rhythmical variations in couple dances, …
  • All participants will benefit from an individual feedback session of around 15 minutes with one of the teachers, on a subject of their own choice.

A part of the programme will be fixed on the spot according to the proposals, preferences and/or needs of the participants. Laure and Koen will give individual suggestions and corrections, so that everyone progresses.

  • Bal with Lucas Thébaut on Tuesday 23 of June, open for external dansers. Reservation necessary.

LEVEL

For advanced folk dancers, and talented intermediate folk dancers who learn quickly.

You should be able to master the basic waltz steps with ease, be familiar with leading and/or following, and preferably be open to changing roles.

We assume that you needed at least two years of dance experience, with regular classes and workshops, to achieve this level. Some of this experience may have been gained in other couple dances (tango, salsa, forró, …).

No previous tango experience is required.

Dance Partner

It is not necessary to register as a couple for this dance workshops. We will often change partners. Therefore, you can register alone, as a couple, with friends …
