Intensive summer school on Different Waltzes @ AKDT

Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
This event is not organised by Frisse Folk. Please refer to description to find out about organiser and sign-up.

Welcome to beautiful South Belgium for a week long intensive summer school on all kinds of Waltzes, held by Elena Leibbrand in Neufchâteau, in the South of Belgium.

Registration has started, but is available so far only in French via the website of "Académie d'été" (AKDT in short).

Content

The theme is waltzes from all over the world: a stable dance technique, and discovery of various waltzes (Viennese, slow waltz, bal musette, bal folk - including irregular waltzes - , mixers ...).

The programme will be enriched by some “non-waltzes” (primarily folk dances), and possibly answers to special requests, relaxation, stretching … and a lot of fun !

(Full description available on the French and Dutch page of our website. Please do not hesitate to contact Elena in English or German if you would like more information)

No dance partner required to sign up.

The main language will probably be French, but Elena also speaks English, Dutch, German & Spanglish - so join the fun !

Equipment

We suggest you bring shoes whose soles allow you to slide / swivel easily (or socks). Ladies, if you can, bring two pairs in which you feel good, one without a heel and one with (a small) heel.
Ladies and gentlemen: also bring a pair that will be comfortable on concrete (for the evening balls).

If you'd like to participate in warming up / stretching sessions, take one comfortable outfit that will allow you to lie to the floor, and/or a yoga mat / blanket.

For the ladies, if you have, bring one wide skirt.

To avoid having the "turns", it is advisable to drink plenty of water - so you may want to bring your own bottle.

Language

Language standard text

The summer school is usually taught in French, but can be complemented with translations of the key elements to German, English or Dutch, which Elena speaks with great pleasure.

You can certainly choose in which language to receive individual feedback.

Mandatory level

Mandlevel standard text

To participate in this workshop, you need to know the basics of at least one type of waltz (folk, Vienna, tango ...).

Elena will give personalized individual exercises and corrections, so that everyone will progress at their own speed, regardless of their initial level. If the size of the group allows it, we can advance at 2 speeds at times.

Dance partner

Partner standard text

You do not have to register together with a dance partner.

For couple dances, we regularly switch partners, and everyone will be invited to try both roles (leader / follower).
