This is a one-time email we’re sending out to communicate about a health issue related to CaDansa. Please read it carefully.

We have been notified that there were people carrying scabies (schurft) at Cadansa.

There is no cause for great worry at this point. It concerns a very small number of people, as far as we know now. And the people who reported this all know and interact with each other (as of now, there are no reports coming from multiple ‘groups’). The people didn’t sleep in the CaDansa sleep-in, and they didn’t touch the clothes swapping table.

There ís a possibility that other people have been infected during long hugs or close dances. The itching can start very subtly, and it may take up to 6 weeks before the infection becomes noticable. Even then, it can be hard to recognise it as scabies sometimes. Meanwhile, you can infect other people without knowing.

While there’s no reason to ring the alarm bells and yell “Outbreak!!”, we do want to let you know about it. Scabies is very treatable, but the problem is usually that people keep re-infecting each other. The more people get infected, the harder it is to get rid of it. Let’s stop it while we can! 😉

We’ve made a folder with information, just so everyone is aware and can recognise it better:

Schurft in de balfolk-community (Nederlands) / Scabies within the balfolk community (English)

So, here’s the plan:

  1. No symptoms? Don’t worry too much. Please read the folder to familiarize yourself, and pay attention to any symptoms in the coming weeks. You can discuss with your doctor to do a treatment preventatively, just to be sure.
  2. Take action if you do develop symptoms.
  3. If you have scabies, please take responsibility. Don’t hug or dance with others until you’ve had adequate treatment, don’t wait, and do tell everyone you’ve been in contact with – so they can get treated as well. It’s not fun, we know – but it is our health. So take care of each other, okay? 🙂

If you have any questions, you can email us. We will try to answer your question, or we mite (… sorry 😀 too soon? maybe too soon.) direct you to someone with more knowledge.

Lots of love,
the now-slightly-itchy-just-from-writing-this-email) CaDansa-team
